I wonder if the AA will be signing it as the RISCO OS show again? |

Considering how many people have heard of it in this day and age (and that's a lot fewer than have vague memories of "Acorn" and "Archimedes" from school), I think the AA did quite well, actually. |

The opening times are wrong on this article - it says 10am - 4.30pm on the show website.
Because of the engineering works on the trains between London and Wakefield, I've come up on Friday and I'm now sitting in my room in the Cedar Court Hotel, which seems to be right under the new location of the show! |

Can we expect a Drobe-style write-up of the show on here after it happens for those of us who can't attend? It looks like being an interesting one! |

EDIT: found another URL that the forum code can't parse correctly

I'm live tweeting from the show - http://twitter.com/monkeyson Cheers for making me giggle and rage at the same time with tweets like these...
#wakey10 Paul Middleton is showing off all the ways you can display a desktop wallpaper - stretch, fit, tile etc.
#wakey10 Draw application doesn't have user interface for the back end charting facility. Instead we are shown how to resize a rectangle.
#wakey10 That's it. The grand finale was a demo of keyboard navigation in the Filer and failing play an incompatible MPEG. *** edit: rant snipped. tldr: Nice to see some stuff happening betwixt utter madness.

My twitter feed will probably get filled with me whinging about the onscreen graphics during Doctor Who, so search for the #wakey10 tag instead: http://twitter.com/#search?q=%23wakey10 |

#wakey10 ROOL are pleasantly surprised that there are new people interested in RISC OS. (Not lapsed ex-Acorn types - new ones!) Wow! When was the last time this happened? |

It's worse than that - there were a load of mugs on the RISC OS Open Ltd stand! That's not so bad. It confirms (as if we needed to know) that the mugs were neither behind the stand nor in front of it |

I now understand why RISCOS Ltd's corporate colour is green, in that AFAICR Paul Middleton always wears a green t-shirt at shows. The reason is here:
(adopts a terrible Irish accent and raises voice an octave or two)
Paul Middleton is a wee little leprechaun. Aww... |

RISC OS people didn't join the Beagleboard community; Beagleboard people joined the RISC OS community. You're searching in the wrong place (and more specifically, RISC OS-related IRC channels have been abuzz with RO/BB talk). |

RISC OS people didn't join the Beagleboard community Which is why I didn't search under c.s.a.*.
Beagleboard people joined the RISC OS community. You're searching in the wrong place Perhaps there are online forums of BeagleBoard users where they're excited by the prospect of trying RISC OS - if so I've missed them or forgotten about them. (And the Touch Book forums don't show much new RO interest to date either.)
(and more specifically, RISC OS-related IRC channels have been abuzz with RO/BB talk). I've not been on IRC for about 15 years so am not really in a position to comment... but even so, following your argument, is there a lot of RO talk on the BB channel? Cheers anyway - just happy to learn of the news really. Hope you are too! |

It will probably only be one or two users and they may have engaged in private correspondence rather than ask on a public forum. Let's not scare them off by having an argument about whether they exist or not.
Anyway - here's a new article with my photos and tweets from the show:

following your argument, is there a lot of RO talk on the BB channel? Following my argument, I can say that yes, there is a lot of talk about RISC OS snd the Beagleboard. Mosts of it happens on IRCnet/#riscos. As for talk on the Beagleboard channels - why are you so obsessed with it that way round? I couldn't possibly comment, since I'm a RISC OS user and not a Beagleboard user, and therefore don't frequent their IRC channels or forums. |

What he's asking is whether RO is being discussed in other communities than the RO community, I believe.
If it's being discussed extensively in other communities, that means it's a potential source of new users. RO users discussing Beagleboards means interest in new hardware, but no new users. Beagleboard users discussing RO may mean new users have interest in playing with the OS.
Anecdote is not the singular of data, but I do know someone who is getting a Beagleboard, and plans to run RISC OS on it (as well as Linux,) to play with the OS. |

Let's not scare them off by having an argument about whether they exist or not. Couldn't agree more. Please come back, new users. We'll try to bicker no more!

I suspect that if there is one, it'll be more like hijacking someone else's event that everyone was going to go to anyway.
(And, I highly doubt there'll be the critical mass to actually have such an event. More like a couple of RISC OS users that happen to be in the same area at the same time meeting up. The US is pretty big, and there's not many active users at all. )

By the way I've finally got network going on my IGEPv2 board and I'm typing this straight from that. Almost turning into a fully usable computer... |

To my considerable annoyance, my family's Omega chose /this/ weekend for its hard drive to enter the Disc Error 10 Spiral of Death rather than a few days before the Show.
Luckily, I installed a network card in it several months ago and I'm currently ShareFSing the files over to my A9. I managed to semi-fix the drive with DiscKnight (money well spent, BTW) and got to the desktop to do the transfer but on this session I've only managed to get to the command prompt and had to set networking up via the command line.
New drive time, methinks. |
