We've just received a press release informing us that the Wakefield RISC OS Computer show will go ahead and a date has been set.
Get your Diaries out and pencil it in for 15th and 16th May 2004. The venue will once again be the Thornes Park Athletics Stadium and this will be open to the public between 10 am and 6 pm on Saturday and 10 am and 4 pm on the Sunday.
Yes, you read it correctly. It is to be a two day event, decided, as a result of feedback received from both exhibitors and visitors. A free minibus service will operate from Wakefield Westgate station to the show and is sponsored by APDL and Virtual Acorn.
Due to popular demand the Advance tickets facility will be returning for the show. Advance tickets will be available from March 2004. Ticket prices:
- 5's and under Free.
- Advance tickets 6 pounds
- On the day rates:
- Saturday 7 pounds
- Sunday 6 pounds
Of course it would not be a Wakefield show without the usual Show Theatre, and Charity Stall, which will again be raising money for Wakefield Hospice. There will also be the usual catering facilities upstairs and it is hoped that there will be another prize draw as well.
The show this year is currently being sponsored by APDL, FinnyBank Ltd(Qercus), Spelling Computer Services, Stuart Tyrrell Developments, Virtual Acorn. With support from all the magazines.

The show is once again being coordinated by Chris Hughes, who has organised all the previous Wakefield shows, in the past supported by the late Mike Wilson, and now by Steve Potts / Phillip Marsden and of course the WROCC members. The show is organised on behalf of the Wakefield RISCOS Computer Club one of the longest running Acorn/RISCOS computer clubs in the UK.
Update: The show's web site is now up and running. According to Chris Hughes, posting on csa.misc, "No exhibitors are listed yet. But I can tell you MicroDigital will NOT be attending."

MD will not be attending due to their choice, or due to WROCC's choice? It does sound surprisingly certain which makes me think perhaps it's not MD who have specified. |

What's the alternative to wakefield? And so does this mean that MD are no longer welcome to go, i.e. if they change their mind they still won't be allowed? |

MD certainly attact a lot of adverse commentary, but with the Omega now having a kind of geek-status as a "project machine" I thought they were starting to gaining a creditable place within the RISC OS community. It's a shame they will not be there. I guess there's also now a lot of competition for the part of the market that their Virtual-Acorn Alpha laptops were targetted at. They were first to spot the market opening there. |

The first native hardware manufacturer to spot the market opening, perhaps. A quick Google search shows that the idea had been around for years beforehand. |
