Online banking and RISC OS

Posted by Tim Fountain on 00:12, 31/12/2001 | ,

My RISC OS have put up a new article looking at experiences of using online banking sites with a RISC OS browser. Currently the article only looks at Halifax and The Royal Bank of Scotland, but comments can be added so hopefully it'll soon contain information about some of the other sites as well. Speaking as someone who uses online banking quite extensively, it's a useful thing to have access to so an article that addresses what works and what doesn't (and appropriate workarounds) is certainly welcomed.

You can read the whole thing here. (I'm linking to the printable version because the normal version is split into four pages with only a few sentences on each.)

Unregistered user I use LloydsTSB's online banking. It even works just fine in Lynx, as well as Fresco and Oregano. It doesn't use Java, and the small amounts of JavaScript it does use are *not* required to actually do any banking. I still don't understand why these banks seem to think they need to use Java etc. for what is actually a fairly simple web application by the standards of webmail etc.

Unregistered user The news is that an interesting article has been published, not that something amazing has happened in the world of RISC OS internet banking. Don't be silly. Besides, The Iconbar always has good news stories anyway.

Unregistered user Oregano works perfectly with no faking for Barclays. They too don't mess around with java or javascript. They know it cuts off a large portion of executive toys if they do that.
