Destiny news

Posted by Dave Sloan on 00:00, 30/10/2000 | , ,

The final game is now complete - the release was set for Wakefield in May, however, as Rob didn't appear, and all appeared to be represented by a black bin bag, I am unsure as to where he is. Be not afraid, as he has once again surfaced on the CSA.games newsgroup to assure everyone that he found a "Fatal error" in Destiny just days before the expected release. This has been ironed out,and the game is now available. Early orders have already been shipped and the game has progressed to version 1.5beta, which has completely revolutionised the coding involved, taking the game from an uplayable mess, to a fantastic game.

There has been a lot of controversy on the comp.sys.acorn.games newsgroup about whether Destiny can be called 3D or not. The layout of the game is that movement is allowed in all three dimensions, and in scene files different layers can be walked on, unlike Doom. However, perspectives are only available in two dimensions, (Doom like rather than Quake) so shooting upwards or downwards is not possible. A "Gold Edition" should be released some time after the initial release, as well as a version which should work on an A3020. The gold edition is set to have more features and effects, whereas the cut down version should run on almost all Risc OS 3+ computers, with 4MB RAM. The first release will be RPC only, as the game currently needs 8MB to run in properly, but 4MB could be a reality, according to Rob, as he refines the game.
